Bawang Merah Bawang Putih

“Tralala… trilili….” Terdengar senandung merdu dari sungai kecil. Itu suara Bawang Putih. Seperti biasa, dia melakukan tugasnya mencuci baju di sungai.

“Tralala… trilili…,” A sweet, melodious voice was heard from a stream. The voice was Bawang Putih’s. As usual. she was doing her laundry in the stream.

Meski ibunya sudah tiada. Bawang Putih hidup bahagia bersama ayahnya yang sangat mengasihinya. Kehidupan Bawang Putih kemudian berubah saat ayahnya juga meninggal dan adik tirinya. Bawang Merah Bawang Putih harus tinggal bersama ibu dan adik tirinya, Bawang Merah.

Although her mother had passed away. Bawang Putih used to have a good life with her father who loved her very much. Bawang Putih ‘s life dramatically changed following his father’s death. She had to live with his stepmother and stepsister, Bawang Merah.

Bawang Merah culas dan pemalas. Dia tak mau membantu pekerjaan rumah. Dia hanya mau bersolek dan tidur-tiduran.

“Bawang Putih, kamu saja yang mencuci baju.”
“Bawang Putih, kamu saja yang menyapu.“

Tiap hari ada saja perintahnya.

Bawang Merah was a deceitful and lazy girl. She did not want to help with house chores. She only liked to dressing up and lying on her bed all day long.

“Bawang Putih, you are the one to do the laundry.”
“Bawang Putih, you are the one to sweep the floor.”

Everyday there was only commands and orders from her.

Pagi ini, nyanyian Bawang Putih berubah jadi teriakan. “Tidak… cucianku hanyut!” teriaknya. Keranjang cucian Bawang Putih terguling dan ada satu baju yang hanyut.

“Celaka! Itu baju Bawang Merah!”

This morning, Bawang Putih’s usual chant changed into scream. “Oh no… my laundry was drifted away!” she cried. Her laundry basket fell and the stream carried away one of the clothes in there.

“Alas! That‘s Bawang Merah’s clothes!”

Bawang Putih memberanikan diri menyusuri arus sungai. Lelah dan lapar tidak dia hiraukan. “Bawang Merah pasti marah besar jika bajunya hilang.” Sayang, baju itu tak juga dia temukan. Hari semakin gelap dan Bawang Putih juga sudah lelah. Akhirnya dia hanya duduk dan menangis.

Bawang Putih encourage herself to go along the stream. She ignored her feeling tired and hungry. “Bawang Merah must be furious if she knew that her clothes was gone.” Unfortunately, She could not find it. The day began to darken, and Bawana Putih aot even more tired. She could only sat down and cried.

“Gadis cantik, apa yang kamu lakukan di sini?” sebuah suara lembut mengejutkan Bawang Putih. Bawang Putih mendongak. Di hadapannya seorang nenek memandangnya dengan cemas.

Dengan berurai air mata, Bawang Putih pun menceritakan masalahnya.

“Good girl, what’re you doing here?” asked a tender voice that surprised Bawang Putih. Bawang Putih raised her head. In front of her, an old woman looking at her with concern. Bawang Putih related her story to the old woman. all the while crying for her bad luck.

“Oh, itu bajumu ya? Yang warnanya merah, kan?” Nenek itu mengeluarkan sesuatu dari keranjangnya. “Apa ini bajumu?“ tanya nenek lagi.

Bawang Putih mengangguk senang. Itu memang baju si Bawang Merah!

“Oh, so is this your blouse? The red one. right” The old woman took something out of her basket. “Is this yours?” asked the old woman once more.

Bawang Putih nodded happily. It was Bawang Merah’s blouse!

Tanpa sadar, Bawang Putin melompat dan memeluk nenek itu. “Terima kasih. Nek. Nyaris saja aku dimarahi ibu dan adik tiriku.”

Nenek memandang Bawang Putih lagi. “Kamu boleh membawa pulang baju ini. tapi ada syaratnya… ”

Spontaneously, Bawang Putih jumped and hugged the old woman. “Thank you. Ma’am. You‘ve saved me from the rage of my stepmother and stepsister. ”

The old woman observed Bawang Putih closely. “You can have it back. but with one condition… “

Nenek itu lalu menunjuk keranjangnya yang penuh labu. “Tolong bawakan keranjangku itu. Bahuku sakit sekali.”

“Oh, tentu Nek. Aku akan membantumu.“ Dengan riang. Bawang Putih memanggul keranjang berisi labu itu. Meski berat. Bawang Putih tak masalah. Apalagi nenek itu sudah tua.

The old woman pointed at the basket full of pumpkins. “Would you help me carrying the basket? My shoulder aches very much.”

“Surely sure. Ma’am. ! will help you. ” Happily. Bawang Putih carried the basket full of pumpkin on her back. The basket was heavy indeed. but Bawang Putih would not mit The woman was verv old.

Kini Bawang Putih sudah tiba di rumah nenek. Dia meletakkan keranjang labu dengan hati hati. “Nah, sudah sampai Nek. Sekarang, bolehkah kuminta bajuku kembali?” pintanya. “Tentu, ini ambillah!” sahut sang nenek.

They analIy reached the old woman‘s house. Bawang Putih carefully put down the pumpkin basket. “Okay, now we are here. May I get the clothes back, Mam?“ she asked. “Sure, here take it!” answered the old woman.

Bawang Putih kemudian berpamitan. “Eh, tunggu dulu. Sebagai ucapan terima kasih, pilihlah satu labu untukmu dan keluargamu.” ujar si nenek. Labu nenek itu besar besar dan menggiurkan.

Namun. Bawang Putih tak mau serakah. Dia memilih labu yang paling kecil. “Kami hanya bertiga, labu kecil ini sudah cukup. Terima kasih. Nek.“

Bawang Putih bid farewell. “Please hold on. As my token of gratitude, you can pick one of these pumpkin for you and your family.” said the old woman. The old woman’s pumpkins were big and alluring.

But Bawang Putih was not a greedy girl. She picked the smallest pumpkin. “There‘re only three of us, so this small pumpkin will be enouqh. Thank you.”

Bawang Putih pulang dengan langkah ringan. Dia berencana memasak kue talam labu. “Kue talam kesukaan Ayah, sayang Ayah sudah tiada Air matanya mulai mengalir.

Bawang Putih went home light heartedly. She planned to make a pumpkin talam cake. “It’s Dad‘s favorite cake, but sadly he’s passed away.“ Her tears starting to fall.

Sampai di rumah, Bawang Merah memarahi Bawang Putih. “Lama sekali sih? Kamu main dulu ya? Hayo, kamu main ke mana dan dengan siapa?” Cecar Bawang Merah. “Dari mana labu ini? Kamu mencuri ya?”

Arriving at home. Bawang Merah was angry at Bawang Putih. “Why did you came so late? You must have been playing around before goiI home, huh? Where did you play and with who?” pestered Bawang Merah. “Where did you get the pumpkin from? Did you steal it?”

“Ibuuuu! Bawang Putih mencuri labu!” terlak Bawang Merah.

Bawang Putih buru-buru menjelaskan semuanya.

“Jadi, labu ini bukan hasil mencuri. Nenek itu memberikannya padaku sebagai ucapan terima kasih.”

“Mom! Bawang Putih stole a pumpkin!” shouted Bawang Merah.

Bawang Putih tried to explain everything.

“Bikinkan aku talam labu!” seru Bawang Merah.

“Iya. tenang saja. Aku akan memasaknya sekarang.”

Bawang Putih mengambil pisau dan membelah labu itu.

“Make a talam cake for me!” Bawang Merah exclaimed.

“Alright. Relax. I will make it for you.” Bawang Putih said. taking a knife to cut the pumpkin.

Tak disangka, alih-alih daging buah, labu itu berisi penuh emas dan berlian. “Heh? Ini labu ajaib!” teriak Bawang Putih.

“Sayang sekali kau memilih labu yang kecil.“ sahut Bawang Merah.

Unexpectedly, instead of flesh of fruit, the pumpkin was filled with gold and diamond. “Wow! This is a miraculous pumpkin!” cried Bawang Putih.

“Too bad vou picked a small pumpkin. ” Bawang Merah scolded her.

Bawang Merah tak terima, dia memutuskan untuk meniru kisah Bawang Putih. “Nanti aku akan memilih labu yang paling besar. Hihi.. sebentar lagi aku kaya!“ Bawang Merah pun pergi ke sungai. dan membawa sekeranjang baju kotor.

Bawang Merah was not very happy with this. She then decided to emulate what Bawang Putih had done. “As for me. I will pick the biggest pumpkin. And soon I‘ll be rich!” Bawang Merah went to the river, carrying a basketful dirty laundry.

Sampai di sungai, Bawang Merah sengaja menghanyutkan bajunya. Lalu, dia duduk dan menangis. Setelah berjam jam menangis, barulah nenek itu muncul. “Ugh, lama sekali sih? Aku sudah capek menangis, kamu baru muncul!” bentak Bawang Merah.

Arriving in the river bank, Bawang Merah let one of her blouses be carried oway by the stream. Then. she acted crying. After several hours of crying. the old woman appeared. “Ugh, why took you so long? I am tired of crying for hours!” scolded Bawanq Merah.

Melihat Bawang Merah, nenek itu hanya tersenyum. Beliau lalu mengeluarkan baju Bawang Merah dari keranjangnya. “Apakah ini bajumu?”

“Benar!” sahut Bawang Merah berusaha merebut bajunya. “Tunggu dulu. Kamu boleh mengambil baju ini nanti. Sekarang, bantu aku memanggul keranjang labuku ini.”

Looking at this. the old woman could only smile. She took out Bawang Merah’s blouse from her basket. “Is this yours?”

“Yup!” answered Bawang Merah matching the blouse from the old woman’s hand. “Wait. You can have it back later. Now, would you please help me carrying this pumpkin basket home?”

Demi mendapatkan labu berisi emas, Bawang Merah menurut.

Namun. sepanjang jalan dia mengomel. Sebentar-bentar dia berhenti dan mengeluh kelelahan. “Aduh, jauh sekali sih rumahmu?” omelnya.

In order to get the pumpkin filled with gold, Bawang Merah obeyed the old woman‘s condition.

But along the way she grumbled. Every now and then she would stop and complained. “Gosh. why is it your house so far?” she grumbled.

Akhirnya, mereka berdua sampai juga. Bawang Merah membanting keranjang labu begitu saja. Labu-labu jadi berceceran di tanah.

“Aku sudah membantumu. Mana upahku?“ tanyanya.

“Silakan pilih satu labu sebagai upahmu. Dan ini bajumu.” Nenek itu menyerahkan baju Bawang Merah.

Finally, they arrived at the old woman‘s house. Bawang Merah dropped the basket carelessly. Making the pumpkins rolled all over the ground.

“Now that I have helped you, give me my reward!” she said. “Please choose one pumpkin as the reward. And here’s your blouse.” The old woman handed Bawang Merah her clothes.

Bawang Merah memandangi labu-labu yang menggelinding di hadapannya. “Mana yang paling besar ya? Ah, itu dia!“ Bawang Merah mengambil labu berukuran besar sekali. Sambil tertawa-tawa. dia membawa pulang labunya.

Bawang Merah observed the pumpkins in front of her. “Which one is the biggest? Ah, there it is!” she said as she picked a very big pumpkin. Laughina out loud, she brouaht the pumpkin home.

Di rumah Ibu menyambut gembira.

“Wah, labumu besar sekali. Emasnya pasti banyak.“

“Ayo Bu, kita belah labunya.” kata Bawang Merah tak sabar

At home, her mother greeted her warmly.

“Wow. you’ve got a very big pumpkin. It must be full of golds.” “Let‘s just cut it, Mom.” said Bawang Merah impatiently.

Bawang Merah mengambil pisau. Dia membelah labunya dengan hati-hati. Dadanya berdegup kencang, membayangkan berapa banyak emas yang keluar dari sana. Namun…

“Aaargggh…!” teriak Bawang Merah.

Bawang Merah took a knife. Very carefully she cut the pumpkin. Her heart be fast. anticipating how many gold she would find. But…

“Aaraaqh…!” she screamed.

“Ada apa? Ada apa?” teriak lbu panik. “Tolong!” Bawang Merah melempar labunya dengan wajah pucat.

Labu itu menggelinding. Dari dalam labu itu keluar ular dan kalajengking.

“What is it? What is it?” asked the mother in panic “Help!” Bawang Merah threw the pumpkin away. Her face grew very pale.

The pumpkin rolled on the ground. From inside it, snakes and scorpions came out.

Bawang Merah memeluk ibunya erat-erat. “Bu, singkirkan labunya. Bu… aku takut, huhuhu!” Melihat Bawang Merah menangis. Bawang Putih jadi tak tega. Dia memberanikan diri mengambil labu itu, untuk dibuang jauh-jauh.

Bawang Merah hugged her mother tightly. Mom, please get the pumpkin away from me,… I’m scared. huhuhu!” Seeing Bawang Merah cried like that, Bawc. Putih felt pity. She took the pumpkin and threw it away as far as she could.

Ajaib! Saat Bawang Putih memegang labu itu, semua ular dan kalajengking menghilang. Labu itu kembali seperti semula.

Ibu dan Bawang Merah tercengang. “Mungkin kamu terlalu serakah, Nak.” kata ibu sambil membelai rambut Bawang Merah.

What a miracle! When Bawang Putih took the pumpkin in her hand, all the snakes and scorpions disappeared. The pumpkin returned to its original form.

The mother and Bawang Merah were dumbfounded. “Maybe it’s because you are for too greedy, Kid,” said the mother, stroking Bawang Merah’s hair.

Bawang Merah tersedu. Dia teringat perlakuannya pada nenek tadi. “Iya Bu, aku memang tidak tulus membantunya. Aku hanya menginginkan emasnya.”

Sejak saat itu Bawang Merah mengubah sikapnya. Dia kini jadi gadis yang baik.

Bawang Merah sobbed. She was reminded as to how bad she had treated the old lady she saw. “Yes Mom, I wasn’t sincere when I helped her. All I wanted was her gold. “

Since then, Bawang Merah changed her behavior.mShe became a good girl.
